Recreation Aides – Before/After School Program (September – June)



Before School Aide Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

After School Aide Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.
Wednesdays 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

(Additional hours may be available on Steilacoom Historical School District half-days and days closed.)

Wage/Hours: $12.95 Hr. (2018)

Tentative Program Start Date - 8/30/18

Position Description:  Supervise, monitor, evaluate, and assess program participants.  Direct and participate in program activities to include:  arts and crafts, sports, games, drama, and music.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.  High school graduation/GED equivalent.
2.  One year experience working with preschool/elementary age children in a structured program.
3.  CPR and Basic First Aid Certification (able to obtain within an agreed/specified period).
4.  Washington State Driver’s License / Good driving record.
5.  Washington State Food Workers’ Card (able to obtain within an agreed/specified period).

Prefer:  Experience working with children in a preschool, before/after school program or recreation program.

Physical Requirements:  Frequent walking, running, standing, sitting, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and moving/lifting up to 30 pounds.  Occasionally transport/set-up of equipment tables/chairs.  Frequent interaction with children in physical exercise, sports, and games.  The incumbent must be able to traverse uneven terrain as activities are frequently conducted in an outdoor environment.  May occasionally drive a van for local field trips.

Farmers’ Market Intern (Unpaid)



Hours: June 20, 2018 –August 29, 2018:  2 hrs./wk. work remotely scheduling/coordinating market activities and developing/maintaining web content.  Wednesdays 1:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. assist with market.

Reports To: Farmers’ Market Coordinator

The Town of Steilacoom is interested in candidates seeking to provide valuable community service and expand their information technology, communication, marketing, skills through the development/implementation of a marketing/communications outreach program.  

Position Description:  The incumbent will be responsible for the design/maintenance/ implementation of an outreach program utilizing approved forms of social media, the Town of Steilacoom’s website, and other websites as authorized.   The position provides an opportunity to serve and interact with Steilacoom Farmers’ Market shoppers/producers/vendors.  The incumbent will gain valuable hands-on experience.   
(Town staff will work with volunteers/interns to accommodate school requirements for those who are eligible to earn educational credits.)

Minimum Qualifications:  
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Experienced communicator (verbal/written/technical). 
Must have reliable transportation. 
Incumbent must maintain a valid drivers’ license and insurance when using a personal/Town vehicle on Town business.
Experienced in navigating/utilizing Facebook and other social media.
Experienced in working independently as well as being an effective team-player.

Prefer:  Previous experience in information technology, communications,
marketing, sales, agriculture, or a combination of experience providing   the skills necessary to perform the duties of the position. 

Representative Duties and Responsibilities: Working with the Farmers’ Market Coordinator to support on-site management of the market, the incumbent may:

Assist in set-up and break-down of A-boards, canopies, tables and chairs
Collect referrals/recommendations from vendors/shoppers
Assist with the Market’s Community Corner and food demonstration schedule

Working under the direction of the Farmers’ Market Coordinator to support the design/implementation of an outreach communications program, the incumbent may:

Conduct vendor interviews and write articles for the Market newsletter
Develop communication tools for Market buyers and the community
Develop/manage marketing/communications to improve/attract advertising and increase Market utilization
Increase Market exposure utilizing internet sources to include the posting of  photographs, videos and additional forms of marketing as approved   

Physical Demands: The position requires the incumbent to frequently preform strenuous physical labor in a safe manner.  The incumbent primarily works in an outdoor environment with frequent exposure to varying weather conditions.   The incumbent is required to traverse uneven terrain in the performance of duties associated with the position.  On a frequent basis, the incumbent will be required to lift/move/transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Public Safety Officer (Lateral)

The picturesque Town of Steilacoom is establishing an eligibility list for lateral officers.  Public Safety Officers are cross-trained and have an opportunity to serve the community in the areas of law enforcement and EMS.  Not trained in both disciplines?  Don’t worry!  Training in EMS needed to increase your versatility will be provided.  We think you’ll find life as a Public Safety Officer both diverse and rewarding and encourage law enforcement officers to apply.  The 2016 monthly salary range for this position averages $5,743. – $6,718.  Specialty pay opportunities are available.  Officers are part of the LEOFF 2 retirement system and may participate in a 457 deferred compensation plan. Farmers’ Market Volunteers

Position Description:  The incumbent will gain valuable hands-on market experience while assisting the Farmers’ Market Coordinator in all phases of market operations.   

Minimum Qualifications:  
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Possess strong communication skills.
Must have reliable transportation. 
Incumbent must maintain a valid drivers’ license and insurance when using a personal/Town vehicle on Town business.
Must pass a background check.
Individuals assigned to process financial transactions must pass a credit check.
